Anpan is a bun filled with red bean paste, white bean paste, Each of these fillings is considered a traditional Japanese sweet.They were invented in 1875 by a Samurai named Yasubei Kimura. At the time,Japan was rapidly westernizing and bakeries were opening all over the country. Kimura'a Anpan was an instant success because it adapted western bread to Japanese tastes. Samurai all lost their jobs at the end of the Edo-erabut many went on to lead Japan's push towards modernization as they were generally well educated.Anpan are still commonly sold at Japanese convenience stores, supermarkets and bakeries today.
